Painting class


This is an art workshop for children aged between 5 and 16 years old. It aims at helping them to explore their own creative process through various forms of art, as often they have no opportunity for creative expression in their regular schools. For us 'creativity' is a holy word which includes within itself the activities of observation, experimentation, imagination and transformation. It enables us to do something different, in our own way, according to our ideas, thoughts and feelings. All our daily activities can be done in a creative way, to make a better and more enjoyable life.

The aims and objectives of the YATRA painting class are to take the children into a journey of creativity within their own worlds. In doing this they become free and confident in their creative learning process. They realize that they too have wings like birds, so that they can fly to new horizons within their artistic endeavors. YATRA aims to help bring out their hidden talents thus enabling them to move into their future in a peaceful and creative way.


The painting classes are conducted every Saturday morning and Sunday morning. Some 20 to 25 children participate in this regular workshop which offers various activities such as painting, drawing, collages, carving, stitching, weaving, singing, dancing and creative action arts. Our professional artist, Sivakumar, conducts painting class for the children from Kuilapalayam, Kottakarai, Edayanchavadi, Bommayarpalayam and other near by villages.

Sivakumar is an artist who lives at Yatra. He always had a strong feeling toward painting and developed his talent from his childhood. As an artist he has already presented over 10 successful exhibitions in Auroville and Pondicherry. He shares his love of art with village children through YATRA painting class.
